Turning Laughs Into Life Lessons

Humor isn’t just for giggles — it’s a powerful way to open kids’ minds to new ideas and life lessons…

As parents, we’ve all been there when we try to teach our children important values or life lessons. But we know that lectures and stern talks tend to go in one ear and out the other. Kids, like adults, dislike being scolded or preached to; they tune out, shut down, or just roll their eyes. So, how can we, as parents, ensure that the lessons we want to pass on actually stick?

This is a question I wrestled with while writing stories for children. My answer was simple: make them laugh, and they’ll listen. Humor is a powerful tool—it breaks down barriers, captures attention, and makes even the toughest truths easier to understand. When lessons are woven seamlessly into a funny story, children are more likely to grasp the message without feeling like they’re being lectured.
